Isabelle Fournier is group leader of the MALDI Imaging Team in the Department of Biology at The University of Lille, France.

She has obtained her master degree and PhD in analytical chemistry at Pierre & Marie Curie, Paris 6 in Pr. JC Tabet Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. G. Bobach and she is a specialist of Mass Spectrometry.

Her first thematic was in the field of fundamental mass spectrometry. She has studied MALDI fundamentals of desorption/ionization processes. She has pursued these researches during her postdoctoral position where she has worked with Pr M. Karas and F. Hillenkamp.

MALDI fundamental processes are clearly lacking understanding and this work has allowed to set up a new model of desorption/ionization in MALDI and to demonstrate the presence of clusters in the MALDI plume.

She is now Professor at the University of Lille. Since its arrival in Lille in 2002, Isabelle Fournier has started to develop tissue analysis by MALDI in a biological laboratory (Pr. M. Salzet) and has founded her own team in MALDI Imaging in direct connection with biological and pathological laboratories.

The research group has two main axes of researches dedicated to developments in MALDI Imaging and applications to clinical problematic. In 2002, when Isabelle Fournier began in the field of MALDI Imaging the technology was at its beginning and the group has contributed to several developments in the field including new solid ionic matrices for MALDI Imaging, open the technical constriction of FFPE tissues, creates the specific MALDI imaging concept through TAG-Mass development and is now focusing on peptide chemical derivatization for in tissue de novo sequencing and phosphoproteome imaging.

All these developments are directly used in the research field of cancer and especially in female tract cancer. Isabelle Fournier is also co-responsible of the Master of Proteomics of Lille. http://www.maldi-imaging.com/
